SAMSUNG SDI’s SDI 25U-Power, a high-performance cylindrical battery, won the Best of Innovation Award at CES 2026, the world’s largest electronics and IT event, held on January 6 in Las Vegas, U.S. Its advanced safety technology, No TP(No Thermal Propagation), was also named an Honoree.

[SAMSUND SDI has won the Best of Innovation and Honoree at CES 2026]
The awards are significant in that SAMSUNG SDI’s technologies were officially recognized in the global market. The achievements highlighted the significance of close communication among employees and continuous R&D efforts. Here are the stories of those who led the development of 'SDI 25U-Power’ and ‘No TP’ technology.
'SDI 25U-Power' made through close communication with customers
'SDI 25U-Power' applies Tabless* technology to minimize internal resistance and effectively controls heat generated during charging. This enables high power output, fast charging capability, and a long lifespan simultanesouly.

Behind the product’s timely development was close communication with customers. Pro Chohee Kang, who is in charge of cylindrical battery product planning said, “We proposed products applying SAMSUNG SDI’s new technologies through a technology-sharing forum regularly attended by major power tool customers. As the proposals matched customer demands, we were able to accelerate the development”.
SAMSUNG SDI swiftly responded to customer demands by launching ‘SDI 25U-Power’, which reinforces battery output. As high-power electronic tools for construction sector emerge as a new driving force in the market, SDI 25U-Power is expected to raise the overall standard of power tool performance.
Pro Chohee Kang said, “The power tool market for general users has already matured. As the construction-sector power tool market has yet to shift to wireless solutions and continues to require high-power batteries, advanced technological innovation is essential. We will strengthen our competitiveness in the power tool market through SDI 25U-Power, which secures high-power capability using the 18650 cylindrical battery, accounting for about 80% of the market.”
No TP technology built on thorough data analysis and validation
No TP(No Thermal Propagation)* prevents fire from spreading to adjacent cells when an issue occurs in a specific battery cell. Leveraging its proprietary thermal propagation prediction program, SAMSUNG SDI enables optimized module and pack design while ensuring safety.

Pro Gilchoun Yeom, who developed No TP, recalled 2022 as the year he initiated the project, saying “It took about 120 days, from analyzing heat propagation mechanism to exploring and validating design factors for improvement”. He added, ”The confidence and cooperation built during the process of analyzing and validating data with many colleagues became the greatest motivation to complete No TP.”
With strict demands for battery safety in EV and ESS markets, No TP technology is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of SAMSUNG SDI batteries.
Pro Gilchoun Yeom said, “With a more advanced TPc(Thermal Propagation Caculator), a program that predicts thermal propagation, we will broaden the scope of prediction starting from the product planning phase, in line with our customers’ module and pack design requirements. To prevent issues in certain cells from developing thermal runaway, we will analyze thermal propagation mechanism within cells and determine design factors for improvement.”
SAMSUNG SDI will swiftly develop products in response to market demand and continue to grow in 2026, driven by differentiated technological competitiveness.
