SAMSUNG SDI Widens Battery Lineup in Materials and Form Factors

2026.10.07

□ Diversifies materials and form factors to expand battery portfolio

□ Holds diverse material technologies covering NCA·NCM·LMO·LFP

□ Addresses market demand with an array of form factors, including prismatic and cylindrical

As batteries find broader applications, from EVs and renewable energy to robots and AI data centers, the performance and characteristics required vary by use case. To respond swiftly to these market changes, SAMSUNG SDI is strengthening its battery portfolio, building on its edge in materials and form factors.

On September 29, the company unveiled its cylindrical LFP(lithium iron phosphate) battery at Data Center World Asia (DCWA) 2026, Asia’s largest data center exhibition, held in Singapore. Leveraging proprietary structural technology, the product delivers improved safety along with higher output power and capacity.

This launch is significant because SAMSUNG SDI now has an LFP lineup covering both prismatic and cylindrical forms. With these, the company can serve the ESS(Energy Storage System) and BBU(Battery Backup Unit) markets, where AI data centers are driving demand, with prismatic and cylindrical LFP batteries, respectively.

[Samsung SDI is expanding its portfolio across materials and form factors]

The expansion of the LFP lineup is part of SAMSUNG SDI’s ongoing effort to build a solid portfolio that can address diversifying market demands.

The company has been broadening its portfolio across a variety of material technologies and form factors.

In terms of materials, its cathode technologies span NCA(nickel cobalt aluminum), LMO(lithium manganese oxide), NCM(nickel cobalt manganese), and LFP. In addition, it is actively developing all-solid-state and sodium-ion batteries, which are drawing market attention as next-generation batteries.

In terms of form factors, it offers different prismatic, cylindrical, and pouch types. Notably, its prismatic battery ensures safety with an aluminum can casing while delivering high energy density through stacking technology.

The all-solid-state batteries are being developed in prismatic and pouch types, laying the foundation to serve diverse applications such as EVs and robots.

SAMSUNG SDI will continue to provide best-tailored battery solutions by advancing its materials and form factor technologies in step with changing market demands.
