□ North American customers value reliability, safety, and supply chain transparency, and more □ Established a local ESS battery production system and reliable material supply chain □ SBB meets customer expectations with enhanced performance, safety, and cost competitiveness |
The biggest buzzword in the energy sector these days is undoubtedly ESS(Energy Storage System). As North America is gearing up for AI data centers, power demand is surging, and the expansion of renewable energy generation is further boosting the ESS market.
To capitalize on this rapidly growing North American ESS market, SAMSUNG SDI is strengthening its position through its prismatic battery technology, setting up production bases, and building a reliable material supply chain in the US.
At the heart of its strategy is SAMSUNG SDI’s all-in-one battery system for ESS. A utility-scale ESS solution, SBB(Samsung Battery Box), integrates batteries and fire safety devices into a single container, delivering both customer convenience and higher performance. It features a diverse lineup, including SBB 1.7 that equipped NCA(Nickel, Cobalt, Aluminum) battery and SBB 2.0 with LFP(Lithium, Iron, Phosphate) battery, effectively responding to a wide variety of customer needs across North America.
SAMSUNG SDI is also expanding its footprint in the North American ESS market by establishing local production infrastructure. StarPlus Energy(SPE), its joint venture with Stellantis in Indiana, has been gradually switching its EV battery lines over to ESS solution. They have been producing NCA batteries since the fourth quarter of last year and are on track to kick off mass production for LFP batteries this fourth quarter.

Beyond manufacturing, the company is reshaping material supply chain in response to stricter local rules of origin. SASMUNG SDI previously locked down a mid- to long-term cathode material deal with L&F, a specialist in the field. By securing this reliable supply chain for key battery materials, the company has mitigated regulation risks.
The moves are now bearing fruit, resulting in massive orders worth trillions of won from North American energy infrastructure players.
“American ESS customers value reliability, safety, long-term performance, supply chain transparency, and cost,” notes an insider from the ESS Sales department at SDIA(SDI America). “SAMSUNG SDI is meeting these high expectations by bringing together our prismatic battery technology and a strong US manufacturing base.”
