Since filing its first prismatic battery patent in 1998, SAMSUNG SDI has built technical know-how and intellectual property. This expertise spans the entire spectrum of design and manufacturing. As of the end of 2025, SAMSUNG SDI holds nearly 1,200 patents in the U.S., firmly maintaining its technological leadership in the sector.
A primary strength of its prismatic batteries lies in its robust aluminum casing. This structural design ensures exceptional safety and durability.
The metal shell acts as a physical barrier, protecting the inside of the cell from external shocks while preventing electrolyte leakage and internal short circuits. The design also offers significant advantages in thermal management during charging and discharging. Because aluminum has high thermal conductivity and the prismatic form factor increases the surface area in contact with the cooling plate, heat dissipates more efficiently. Furthermore, vent designs and thermal runaway prevention(No TP) technology have been integrated to enhance overall safety.

The second key edge of the prismatic battery comes from its stack design. To efficiently utilize the space within the prismatic casing, SAMSUNG SDI layers the anode, cathode, and separator on top of one another. This stack structure minimizes empty space, enabling both high-capacity and long-life.
