With the vision that “Technology is hope”, SAMSUNG SDI has prepared for a supercycle throughout 2025 by proactively exploring key technologies that can change the world. We look back on of SAMSUNG SDI’s achievements, as the company pursued its next major leap by strengthening technological capabilities.
1. ‘InterBattery Awards’ Recognition
In February, SAMSUNG SDI won InterBattery Awards, which was held at COEX in Seoul, South Korea. Award-winning technologies are 50A High Power Cylindrical Battery Cell and The Material and Electrode Technology for LFP+ Platform, earning SAMSUNG SDI recognition at Korea’s largest battery exhibition for the second consecutive years.

2. Joint development of robot-specific batteries with Hyundai Motor, Kia
In the same month, SAMSUNG SDI signed an MoU with Hyundai Motor and Kia for the joint development of robot-specific batteries. The partnership aims to develop batteries optimized for robots and integrate them into various service robots. The companies earlier showcased DAL-e and MobED, service robots from Hyundai Motor and Kia.

3. Resolve to raise KRW 2 trillion rights offering to accelerate mid- to long-term growth
On March, SAMSUNG SDI announced to raise KRW 2 trillion through a rights offering to strengthen its future competitiveness and mid- to long-term growth. It announced plans to use the funds for joint venture investments with GM in the U.S., expansion of capacity at its Hungary plant, and CAPEX investments toward all solid-state battery lines in Korea.

4. Mass production of Next generation 46-Phi cylindrical batteries and initial supply for U.S. Customer
In the same month, SAMSUNG SDI has become the first Korean battery maker to commence mass-production of 46-Phi batteries. The 4695 batteries, measuring 46 millimeters in diameter and 95 millimeters in height, feature a high-nickel NCA cathode, a proprietary SCN anode, and a tabless design They were initially supplied to an U.S. customer for use in micro-mobility applications.

5. Winning Awards at Europe’s largest energy exhibition alliance as the only Korean company
In May, SAMSUNG SDI was selected as an Award Winner at ‘The smarter E EUROPE 2025’ Europe’s Largest Alliance of Exhibitions for the Energy Industry, becoming the only Korean battery company among the recipients. It was honored for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system battery product, U8A1, in the energy storage category and for No TP(No Thermal Propagation) technology in the e-mobility category.

6. SBB supply to Europe's leading commercial ESS Provider
In June, SAMSUNG SDI signed a battery supply agreement with Tesvolt, a German Energy Storage Solution (ESS) manufacturer. Under this agreement, SAMSUNG SDI will supply SBB 1.0 and 1.5 batteries to Tesvolt, which has been experiencing rapid growth in the European market recently. The two companies will continue negotiations for additional supply while strengthening cooperation, including joint promotions for future ESS project orders.
SAMSUNG SDI's SBB is a 20-foot container equipped with battery cells, modules, and racks. It is ready for immediate use upon connection to the power grid. It has been recognized in global markets, mainly in the U.S. and Europe, for its significantly enhanced safety features.

7. Collaboration on All-Solid-State Battery Validation Project with BMW Group
Germany's premium manufacturer BMW Group and U.S. battery technology company Solid Power signed a trilateral agreement to work together in October. The companies began a technology verification project for the application of ASSBs in vehicles. Under this arrangement, SAMSUNG SDI will supply ASSB cells, featuring enhanced both energy density and safety, by utilizing the solid electrolyte developed by Solid Power. The three partners aim to evaluate the performance of ASSB cells based on the agreed parameters and requirements, and to integrate them into BMW’s next-generation evaluation vehicles.

8. Winning the Best of Innovation Award at CES 2026
SAMSUNG SDI today announced that it has won the Best of Innovation award ahead of CES 2026, the world's largest tech event to be held in Las Vegas next January, for its cutting-edge high-power cylindrical battery technology. SAMSUNG SDI earned the top honor just 2 years after its launch. The SDI 25U-Power, a high-performance cylindrical battery, was selected as a Best of Innovation winner in the Construction & Industrial Tech category and its No TP was named an Honoree in the Vehicle Tech & Advanced Mobility category.

9. Recognition for industry-leading ESS safety technologies at Korea Tech Festival
SAMSUNG SDI’s SBB has won the ministerial-level Grand Prize at Korea Tech Festival in December. SAMSUNG SDI was the only domestic battery manufacturer to be recognized, underscoring its leading capabilities in ESS safety.

10. KRW 2 trillion deal for ESS LFP battery supply in the U.S.
SAMSUNG SDI’s U.S. subsidiary signed a contract with a US company specializing in the development and operation of energy-related infrastructure to supply ESS batteries. Valued at over KRW 2 trillion, the deal calls for ENT to supply LFP battery cells for the company’s SBB 2.0 system over the next three years.
