Due to the recent nationwide heatwave, SAMSUNG SDI has implemented various measures to ensure a safe working environment during the summer.

On August 4, a ‘mobile rest bus’ was introduced at factories in Cheonan, Gumi, and Ulsan. It provides a resting space for those working outdoors. Many construction site workers frequently experience symptoms such as dehydration or dizziness. In particular, during the summer, workers are more prone to fatigue and loss of concentration, increasing the risk of safety accidents. The ‘mobile rest bus’ is intended to prevent such issues, moving around various areas within the worksites to provide outdoor workers with a cool and comfortable place to rest.

An employee from a partner company commented, “This summer is so hot that I start sweating just by standing still, so the rest bus is a great help,” adding, “I’m especially satisfied that the bus is located near the construction site, so I don’t have to walk far to take a break.”

In addition, sunshades and tents have been installed throughout the outdoor work areas. For work projects in enclosed spaces, such as equipment installation, portable air conditioners and ventilation equipment are used.

Measures have also been put in place to check and protect the health of individual workers. All workers are free to enjoy cold water, electrolyte drinks and glucose candy provided in the work area to prevent heat-related illnesses. Before work begins, site managers conduct safety review sessions to share risk factors in real time.

In practice, SAMSUNG SDI is applying heatwave response standards that are stricter than government recommendations. Under these standards, workers must take at least a 20-minute break every two hours when the temperature exceeds 33°C, and all indoor and outdoor work is immediately halted when it exceeds 35°C. This reflects SAMSUNG SDI’s principle of prioritizing the life and health of all workers above all else.

SAMSUNG SDI will continue its efforts to ensure that all employees, including those of partner companies, can work in a healthy and safe environment.
