SAMSUNG SDI Wins President’s Award for Jang Young-shil with its High Performance EVs Battery
2025.04.10
SAMSUNG SDI’s batteries for electric vehicles have been recognized by Korea's most prestigious industrial technology award.
SAMSUNG SDI announced on April 10 that it has been awarded ‘the IR52 Jang Young-shil President Award’ for developing high performance batteries
‘The IR52 Jang Young-Shil Award’ recognizes one technology each week for one year (52 weeks), and the most outstanding technology will receive the President’s Award.
The technology that won the President’s Award is a premium EV battery that SAMSUNG SDI began developing in 2016. It has the world’s highest capacity and energy density (650Wh/L), enabling 700km of driving range on a single charge, and fast-changing technology that charges to 80 percent in 20 minutes.
At the beginning of the development, the technology was limited to 300 km of driving range and 30 minutes of fast charging, but the company succeeded in mass-producing a product with differentiated performance in 2023.
SAMSUNG SDI also ensured outstanding structural safety by encasing a prismatic battery in an aluminum can. In addition, design technologies to enhance safety, such as vents and fuses, and new insulation materials between the cell spaces were applied to maximize safety.
In particular, SAMSUNG SDI explained that this project also played a critical role in the development process of the No TP technology which was presented in a recent ‘InterBattery 2025’.
With this award, SAMSUNG SDI was recognized for balancing the performance of a prismatic battery and safety.
“Winning the President’s Award means that SAMSUNG SDI has been recognized for the right direction in developing batteries for EVs”, said Vice President Tae-ahn Kim at AEB) Product Planning Team. “We will continue to secure technology through continuous R&D to overcome the crisis.”
