[InterBattery] InCelligent Life Introduced by Employee Docents

2025.03.06

SAMSUNG SDI is participating in 'InterBattery 2025' from March 5 to 7. Join our employee docents as they introduce SAMSUNG SDI's products and technological advancements on-site.

[More Confident] A Well-Founded Confidence in Prismatic Batteries

The More Confident zone provided a comprehensive look at the competitiveness of SAMSUNG SDI's prismatic batteries for electric vehicles. The zone was structured to showcase each stage, from cells to packs to completed vehicles.

In the cell section, visitors could explore the six key advantages* of prismatic batteries. The No TP (No Thermal Propagation) technology was also introduced, which can be more effectively applied to prismatic batteries than other form factors. Additionally, an overview of TPc (Thermal Propagation Calculator), SAMSUNG SDI's proprietary program for predicting thermal propagation, was introduced.

* Advantages include safety, energy density, power output, scalability, system design, and cooling efficiency.

The pack section featured Cell-to-Pack (CtP) technology, demonstrating the optimal CtP design made possible by prismatic batteries and its benefits. The software technology BMS, which manages battery pack safety and performance, was also showcased. Furthermore, the Cybersecurity Management System (CSMS) certification* acquired in November 2024 was displayed.

* This certification ensures that the company has established processes and security policies to address cybersecurity threats to electrical and electronic components and software, including vehicle-integrated batteries. SAMSUNG SDI is the first battery manufacturer to obtain this certification, covering global production facilities.

In the completed vehicle section, the Audi Q6 e-tron, equipped with SAMSUNG SDI's P5 battery, was exhibited. The Q6 e-tron features the PPE41 cell, which received the Jang Young-shil Award in 2024, recognizing its technological excellence.

In-yeong Choi, a Mid-to-Large Product Planning Group professional and prismatic battery docent, shared, "I take pride in SAMSUNG SDI's No TP technology, which prevents thermal propagation, and in the safety of our prismatic batteries. It is rewarding to see visitors showing keen interest."

SAMSUNG SDI's preparations for mass-producing all solid batteries, a topic of significant interest, were also showcased in the More Confident zone. Notably, samples produced in the second half of 2024, featuring enhanced capacity and energy density compared to those from the first half, attracted considerable attention.

Seung-jin Ko, a Mid-to-Large ASB Business Development Group professional and solid-state battery docent, commented, "With SAMSUNG SDI's proprietary anode-free technology, we are preparing for mass production faster than the industry, which fills me with pride."

[More Powerful] Power Tools with Strong High-Power Energy

The More Powerful zone highlighted SAMSUNG SDI's manufacturing technologies that enable high-output performance. Key technologies introduced included tabless, ultra-thin coating, and notching techniques. The tabless technology, in particular, employs a thin substrate as a tab, facilitating electron movement and reducing resistance. This enhances energy efficiency, improves power output, and extends battery lifespan.

Jong-in Yun, a Small Product Planning Group professional and small battery docent, stated, "SAMSUNG SDI has maintained its leading position in the power tool battery market with high-output batteries for a long time. I believe tabless technology will be the key to sustaining our competitive edge."

[More Stable] Stable Power Supply with More Stable ESS

The More Stable zone showcased ESS batteries and solutions essential for utilizing eco-friendly energy. Visitors had the opportunity to see the SBB* 1.5, which boasts the world's largest capacity for a single container at 5.26MWh. The exhibit also featured EDI technology, a core safety mechanism of the SBB 1.5. EDI is SAMSUNG SDI's proprietary fire suppression system, which directly injects extinguishing agents into the module to prevent thermal runaway between cells in case of abnormal heating.

Hye-ryeong Cho, a Mid-to-Large ESS Product Planning Group professional and SBB 1.5 docent, remarked, "Many visitors showed great interest in the EDI safety system. I am proud to introduce the SBB, which offers both high energy density and outstanding safety."

An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system was also showcased, which prevents data loss during emergencies by providing backup power. SAMSUNG SDI's UPS cells utilized LMO material, which offers excellent thermal stability, ensuring enhanced data protection.

 * SBB is short for SAMSUNG Battery Box, a compact energy storage system that integrates battery cells, modules, and racks within a 20ft container box.

[More Capable] Innovation in Everyday Life with Batteries

The More Capable zone featured products for robotics, e-mobility, and IT applications. Robot batteries require high energy density, long lifespan, and fast charging capabilities. SAMSUNG SDI supplies the 48X cylindrical battery*, optimized for fast charging and extended lifespan, to robotics applications. Visitors had the opportunity to witness Hyundai·Kia Motor Group’s Robotics Lab service robot, DAL-e, equipped with SAMSUNG SDI’s 48X battery, greeting attendees at the exhibition.

* A 21700 cylindrical battery (21mm in diameter, 70mm in height) with a capacity of 4,800mAh.

For IT applications, pouch and coin cell batteries were exhibited. SAMSUNG SDI’s pouch battery has been further slimmed down to a 2mm ultra-thin design to meet product requirements. With improved energy density and fast charging capabilities, it has been incorporated into the Galaxy S25 smartphone lineup.

[More Independent] Autonomous Buses Completed by Batteries

The More Independent zone introduced Roii, an autonomous bus powered by 4,032 SAMSUNG SDI 48X batteries. Roii is a Level 4 unmanned autonomous vehicle with no driver’s seat, capable of traveling at a top speed of 60 km/h for up to 200 km. Visitors had the opportunity to board the bus and experience it firsthand.

Se-yeon Lim, a Small Product Planning Group professional and small battery docent, explained, "The 48X battery is an ultra-long-life battery with a lifespan exceeding 3,000 cycles, making it ideal for applications requiring extended durability, such as robotics and autonomous vehicles. I look forward to seeing 48X adopted more widely in the future."
