SAMSUNG SDI achieved Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) certification for our five global manufacturing facilities last year.

The CSMS certification confirms that cyber security management process and policies for electrical and electronic components and software in vehicles are properly implemented.

The CSMS certification was issued by the international inspection association, TUV Rheinland*. The certified worksites incude five locations: Gihueng Office, SDIHU, SDIBS, SDIABS and SDIEU.

* TUV Rheinland : An accredited international inspection association that tests, inspects and certifies products, systems and processes in various industries based on international standards and rules. 

SAMSUNG SDI is the first company in the battery industry to receive CSMS certification, including global manufacturing facilities, demonstrating its ability to respond to cyberattacks and manage security throughout the entire product lifecycle, including design, production, operation and maintenance phases.

The importance of the certification was further highlighted when the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) enacted legislation requiring all vehicles sold in Europe to be certified as of July 2024. This certification is essential for the production and sale of vehicles in Europe by the 56 member states of the UNECE Convention. SAMSUNG SDI has obtained certification in all 11 evaluation criteria of ISO/SAE21434*.

In 2023, SAMSUNG SDI established a dedicated cyber security task force to obtain the CSMS certification. We set up a specialized task force at five worksites at home and abroad (Giheung Office, SDIHU, SDIBS, SDIABS and SDIEU), establishing an integrated cyber security process applicable to all locations.

With the CSMS certification, SAMSUNG SDI has demonstrated not only its performance and safety of the batteries, but also its cyber security capabilities. This achievement is expected to further strengthen our position in the global market in the future.
