SAMSUNG SDI recognizes safety and health as the foundation of our management and strives to create a safe workplace. We are bolstering our safety incident prevention system to achieve zero injuries and accidents for our employees and on-site partners. We perform theme-based monthly checks to identify risk, and our executives directly perform on-site checks on their responsible areas. We also provide safety training to all employees, making progress towards rigorous health and safety management. 

Building an Advanced Safety Culture

We provide health & safety training to all our employees to elevate their occupational health and safety awareness. Our diverse training curriculum offers over 240 courses, including VR safety training. In 2022, we opened VR-assisted safety training rooms at respective locations to provide vivid training. Employees receive either hands-on training to directly experience safety accidents or viewing-based training to watch VR content.

Since 2023, plans and achievements for monthly accident prevention activities have been shared, and the “Safety Talk” event has been hosted to award best practices and to heed the voice of employees. Newsletters are also sent monthly to communicate accidents that occurred and safety rules to employees. Moreover, we hosted a ‘drawing contest for safety’ and distributed VR contents to vulnerable community groups.

Workplace Safety Risk Assessment

Risk assessment is made regularly each year to prevent occupational injuries, and is also made on an as-needed basis when machines or equipment is newly introduced or modified, and the results are registered on our computer system for all employees to access.

We continue to identify and improve potential risk hidden in our processes and facilities at domestic and global operations. In 2023, a total of 296,053 potential risks were identified across the board based on manufacturing workforce, which is translated into 41.5 risks per person to exceed our initial target by 245%. In addition, we made the Safety Culture bulletin board available starting from January 2023 to upload best practices of improving potential risk on a monthly basis, and these best practices help all our employees to raise the bar on their safety performance and prevent accidents as a result.

Supply Chain Safety Management

We have been conducting safety assessment on partners since 2020 to prevent occupational injuries that may arise in subcontracting. Such assessments are made when work is performed in locations controlled, operated, or managed by SAMSUNG SDI. In 2023, safety performance assessments were made on 192 occasions, and contracts are made with partners based on the assessment result. 

SAMSUNG SDI was recognized as an outstanding company by the Ministry of Employment and Labor for the ‘2023 win-win partnership project for health and safety between large businesses and SMEs’. The project implemented consulting to strengthen the execution of risk assessment, improve safety management capabilities, and disseminate safety awareness. SAMSUNG SDI helped partners improve their health and safety awareness through consulting and participation in health and safety activities.
