[ESG] SAMSUNG SDI’s Efforts on Inclusion and Diversity

SAMSUNG SDI aims to improve diversity and inclusion while generating organizational performance and social value. For this, we minimize conflict among employees with various backgrounds and establish a culture of mutual respects. In addition, SAMSUNG SDI aims to build an organizational culture that aligns all our employees towards growth through communication and collaboration. Each year, we conduct SCI* (Samsung Culture Index) surveys on employees to identify the strengths and weaknesses of our corporate culture and make necessary improvements. Over the past three years, our SCI score has been on the rise by more than three points every year.
* SCI, Samsung Culture Index: It covers the three main categories of Engagement, Collaboration, and Pride. Specific survey items in each of these categories help us assess employees’ job satisfaction based on their work engagement and personal growth as well as for department/corporate satisfaction based on the culture of cooperation and respect.

Creating an Inclusive Corporate Culture
To ensure our employees and their families have positive experience at SAMSUNG SDI and enhance their sense of belonging in so doing, we invite employees’ family members to various programs and events. For instance, employees can use online compliment card sending system to convey their praise and gratitude message to colleagues. The system is up and running year-round, and during the core period set once or twice per year, we actively seek out best practices of collaboration and award employees involved.
In order to spread a culture of collaboration, we carry out various collaborative tasks between related departments every year and host events at the 4th quarter of each year on an annual basis to share the progress made and outcomes generated under the collaboration projects undertaken for the past one year. Each project is assessed against such criteria as collaboration, competitiveness, creativity and challenging spirit, and exceptional ones are awarded.

Nurturing female talent
SAMSUNG SDI supports female leaders’ professional growth to respect diversity and equality and facilitate female talent’s career development and leadership skill enhancement. As a result, the percentage of our female executives doubled and the percentage of female managers tripled over the past 10 years.
We have a mentoring program for exceptional female talent as part of efforts. In 2023, eight executive mentors and 27 mentees chosen as outstanding female talent participated in the program. This program assists our female employees to get advice for leadership, career concerns and skill development. Also, mentees who have a child to take care of learn tips on how to handle both work and childcare.
Recruiting talent from diverse backgrounds
SAMSUNG SDI recruit talents with diverse backgrounds without putting limitations on applicants’ background to increase diversity of the company. Our transparent recruitment process offers all applicants wishing to join Samsung SDI an equal opportunity free from any discriminatory factors irrelevant to individual competency. Samsung SDI operates fair systems that do not discriminate against employees on the grounds of family relation and place of birth among others. Moreover, we removed the minimum GPA requirement and no longer request the name of school applicants attended as part of ‘blind hiring’.

We engage in campus recruiting at leading universities overseas and Tech&Career Forum* to recruit top-tier talent and establish our global competitiveness. We have opened new overseas R&D centers since 2022 to expand global talent recruitment and have recruited talent in respective countries. In 2023, we initiated recruiting experienced hires for R&D roles among foreigners studying in Korea to bring in talented foreign residents from diverse countries.
